.300 Styria Magnum

The 300 Styria Mag was developed 2005 by Ing. Michael W. Mayerl from the Styria Arms company in Austria. The case is based on the well known beltless German magnum case 8x68S by shorten to 2.559" case length and neck down to 308 caliber. The shoulder angle is the same than the 8x68S so fire forming is not necessary and no new headspace gages are needed. Goal of this new cartridge was to get a high reliable 300 Magnum cartridge that fits the standard and most reliable Mauser 98 action without any modification at the feeding lips, follower, feeding ramp or magazine length. Only the bolt face must be opened to diameter 0.52". The throat of the 300 Styria Mag is similar to the proven 308 Winchester and short enough to seat the bullets to the lands without exceed the maximum length of 3.339" to fit the original M98 magazine. All told the 300 Styria Mag is a high accurate, high reliable, beltless high power cartridge to build M98 rifles for the roughest hunting trips. The thick walled 8x68S basic case manufactured by RWS can handle a usage pressure up to 4600 bar / 66720 PSI and the base diameter of only 0,512" in comparison to the wider belted magnum cases prevent malfunctions. www.styriaarms.com
